Use your mobile phone to video your swim and send it to your family to show them your progress. I can video you so you have copies to go home with which makes it so much easier to use for drills
Video used for learning how to swim is a fantastic teaching tool for any swimming student regardless of their capabilities in the water. It gives them an actual picture of how they are performing in the water. This can be done when you use your mobile phone to video your swim.
I have found that (myself included) it is difficult to understand exactly what a persons body is doing in water especially when trying to learn a technique.
A person with anxieties about being in the water feels that there is this huge space and they are going to be stuck there not being able to get up. The video playback gives the person a correct view of height and depth. This allows them to keep this picture in mind as they enter the water again. I can use your mobile phone to video your movements in the water giving you something to focus on when you get home. I can also get you to video me, providing the correct method of swimming.
Once learning how to put their head in the water and the technique of hold their breath and going into the float position, the feeling is that they are rocking from side to side and they are going to flip over any minute.
No matter how many times that I have explained that this feeling is exaggerated simply because they cannot see what they are doing. There is nothing better than seeing themselves in the water using the camera and knowing that the sensation is not real and the person can see the rocking from side to side is in actual fact just an inch or so of movement.
Taken on the swimmers mobile phone so she could show what progress she had made. The student can see how her/his legs are moving and make the necessary corrections.
When in my private swimming pool demonstrating the kick breast stroke or front crawl I can bring the camera up close to see the position of my feet. With this picture in their minds they can copy more easily.
When a person finds they cannot get a particular technique instead of going through a long complicated explanation I can show them recorded footage of what they are doing under water. Without exception everyone is surprised at their interpretation of the technique. They then go on to make progress after seeing what they are doing in the water.
The video camera is also a good tool for triathletes and improvers. Triathletes have developed strong leg muscles in order to bike and run this impedes the ability to be fluid in the water. After seeing the amount of wasted energy spent during the swim they can then adapt easily to learning how to use their bodies to balance. Making their strokes more efficient thereby not wasting energy. You can use your mobile phone video your swim to see exactly what you are doing in the water and then you can spend time correcting yourself.
I have my own private swimming pool, teach on a 1-1 basis and also provide residential accommodation for anyone that needs the peace and quiet after their time in the water.
I used to be phobic of the water, now I help others to conquer their fear by using step by step logical reasoning to help people to understand the water.
I have taught over a 1,000 people by my methods that I have adapted to meet peoples needs. One cap does not fit all people!
