People Feel Stupid Learning in a Public Pool

People feel stupid learning in a public pool, embarrassed to try and learn to swim with people looking from the gallery.

A lot of people  feel stupid or embarrassed to try and learn to swim in a public pool with people looking from the gallery and also there is the noise, the movement of the water to take into consideration. I could say it is very much like trying to learn how to drive a car for the very first time on a busy motorway. Too many sounds and things going on at the same time. So peace and quiet is needed and also a controlled atmosphere. This is where my private swimming pool is invaluable.

Privicy to talk and received explainations

Please do not feel stupid about being afraid of something you cannot achieve in water because you are not able to feel in control this feeling is completely normal. What is needed is to learn how to stabilise yourself. Once you have achieved the stabilisation you will find the control.  This technique is one of  the first things I explain and demonstrate so you can actually see it happening. Then you will start to believe it is possible.

When you come to me to learn how to swim. the first thing I do is to take you through a short induction course. To do this we will simply be walking up and down in the water. You will then realise that the water is constant and does not change the way it reacts to you. More information: Afraid of Learning to Swim?

There is nothing worse that looking at people enjoying themselves in the water, looking cool, it looks so easy! Your friends shout out, come on in! Your other half says, “look all you have to do is …………. “. and you feel so stupid because you know that person can’t really teach you how to swim. I know, I’ve been there! Not any more after learning to swim … More information: are you embarrassed at the thought of trying to swim?
