Fear of water aqua-phobia how it develops. Wrong treatment in the water causes a massive reaction that can continue for years. Is not easy to face it and there can be a number of reasons for this phenomena, which can be rectified by my teaching which gives the pupil an understanding of the logic of the water.
Fear of water could be simply because a person has never experienced what it is like to be in the water, so they fear what is going to happen once they get into it.
This type of feeling can be rectified reasonably quickly, depending on the persons ability to take in instruction. The fact that I have a private swimming pool makes it easier. All the instruction is done in a controlled way on a 1-1 basis. What I mean by that statement is, there are no children around whilst you are learning. No echoing and no huge smells of chlorine!
This is an action that has been experienced by the person causing them not to want to repeat it again by exposure to the very thing that caused the phobia.
You would be surprised how many people have phobias, fear of flying, spiders, heights, standing on a stage in front of people, failure, competing in sports, playing music in front of people, I could go on and on. What is the common factor of these fears? WE ARE NOT IN CONTROL OF THE ENVIORMENT WE ARE IN!
When a person gets into the water the first thing they feel is movement all around their body. They then try and stop the movement of the water by pushing their hands out or grabbing hold of the side of the pool. This creates further movement of the water. The brain quickly reacts by producing adrenaline which in turn brings back the feeling of being out of control. Also the feeling they have already experienced by the accident they had.
Fear of water aqua-phobia how it develops after repeated punishment
The fear of water aqua phobia and how it developed was because of the treatment when living in a Children’s Home from the early age of six months. It was normal for a punishment to push the child back into a bath of water and hold him/her there until they nearly passed out. This way of punishment was across the board and practiced in many children homes in or around the 40′ and 50’s).
Have you, had this experience? If you have please let me know as I would be really interested to see how many people suffered this sort of punishment.
Fear of water aqua phobia caused by rough treatment is long lasting and can create a huge impact upon the sufferer. I had certain behaviour that caused panic. Being plunged into to darkness during an electricity power cut, or sitting in the middle of a room full of people. If I experienced either of those two things that I would get a creepy feeling and then the panic would start. I HAD to sit with my back against a wall so I could see everything that was going on. Being plunged into darkness caused a huge feeling of panic. This sort of behaviour carried on right until I was 52 when I had some counselling for a year. Five years later I was able to start to learn to swim, but that is another story.
As a result I have had the most humbling experiences of helping nearly two thousand people to change the way they feel about the water by using psychology to turn the huge panic they have into understanding the logic of the water.
